Most Memorable Gift

My most memorable gift is never about the amount given or by who.
I was coming out from a bad phase picking myself up. I had just started working and at that point it will be Hari Raya in less than a month time. My hope was to get my children some new shoes and clothings with my first pay.
Pay day comes (5 days before Hari Raya), I found out my pay was not credited as my bank account was closed without notice. Went down to the bank to check and the disappointment was so overwhelming that I sat and cried in the bank then with my daughter who was having a fever at that time. Wanting to bring her to the doctor too but couldn't.
Left the bank broken hearted (still crying) and went home. A friend happened to call me and to catch up. Chat for awhile and somehow told her what has happened. I told her without thinking.
The next day, she came over after work to see how was my daughter doing. Before she left, she pass me an envelope, telling me it's from her and her family (mum,dad,siblings). I didn't expect anything & truthfully it was a huge surprise knowing their family is also not well to do but they were willing to give some of their savings so my young kids could feel the joy of celebration of Hari Raya. And whatever balance is for me to tide up til my next pay.
I shared my sorrow with someone whom I never expect anything. However through their big heart and empathy they are willing to share a little of what they have to put a smile on those who are suppose to be my responsibilities in the first place.
Many years has passed, I would not forget that simple act of kindness from a struggling friend and her family.
