Resilience and Purpose: My journey through hardship

Your Quote or Supposed Reason

Greatness comes from realising suffering and not avoiding sufferings

There’s a quote that resonates deeply with me: “Greatness comes from realising suffering and not avoiding sufferings.” Life has a way of testing us, and I’ve come to understand that true wisdom and strength emerge not from avoiding difficulties, but from facing them head-on and growing through them.

I remember a time in junior college when I led my Project Work team. It wasn’t just about completing an assignment; it was about managing different personalities, overcoming setbacks, and pushing through stress. Some teammates were highly motivated, while others struggled or lacked initiative. At times, I felt overwhelmed, especially when last-minute edits set us back or when certain members didn’t pull their weight. It would have been easy to let frustration take over or to give up, but I knew that wasn’t the right path.

Instead, I adapted. I learned to balance responsibilities, communicated more effectively, and found ways to keep the team moving forward. I took on more work when necessary, not because I had to, but because I wanted to ensure we succeeded together. Looking back, that experience shaped my ability to lead, to empathize, and to persevere under pressure.

True wisdom, I’ve realized, isn’t just about knowing the right thing to do—it’s about using what we’ve learned to uplift others. Whether it’s supporting a struggling teammate, offering guidance to a friend, or simply leading by example, we become truly useful when we channel our struggles into strength and share that strength with others.

Now, whenever I face challenges, I remind myself: suffering isn’t something to run from. It’s a lesson, a stepping stone, a test of character. And in overcoming it, we not only become stronger ourselves—we become a source of strength for those around us.
