How food diet and terminal illnesses are related
LS202412Discipline is a good habit to build.
Give in to cravings and we will suffer later.
The right kind of food will be good for our health are those food that are
1. Whole food, 2. Plant-based, 3. Balance diet, and 4. No food.
1. Whole food - foods that are left close to their natural state, they are as real as they can get with minimal processing if any.
- They (most of the time) have a short ingredient list with ingredients we recognize, not laden with additives, preservatives, flavourings, chemicals, MSG etc.
E.g. Home-made wholemeal bread – Wholemeal flour, water, yeast, unrefined sugar, salt.
vs
Commercial wholemeal bread – Wholemeal flour, water, vegetable fat, wheat protein, sugar, salt, vitamins and minerals, yeast, dough conditioner, calcium propionate. Contains emulsifiers and enzymes as permitted food conditioner.
- They will make us full and satiated easily even if we do not eat much; instead of make us crave for more, become addicted, or have to eat a lot until we feel gorged.
E.g. Boiled potatoes vs French fries. Fruit vs fruit juice.
- We feel nourished after eating it and feel stronger; instead of feel empty, weak, sluggish, sleepy, sugar spike or lousy.
E.g. Wholemeal bread vs white bread
- They are free from pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, GMOs, artificial sweeteners etc; instead of containing them. A lot of food in the agriculture have been altered.
E.g. Sweetened fruits / pesticide laden vegetables vs normal fruit / organic vegetables
2. Plant-based – derived from plants.
We are living in an era that is eating too much meat. Looking back at history, none of the ancient communities in the world eat meat, fish and animal products in such voluminous amounts like we do now. Those communities who depend on frequent hunting usually do not eat meat or fish on such a commercially destructively scale like us now and they usually on a whole have a shorter life expectancy. This is the law of nature for balancing how much we take from the earth. Nowadays we eat so much meat, fish, animal products… and in fact everything… that earth resources cannot continue to support us – so in a balancing act… we have to perish faster and earlier…because the resources can no longer support us.
Although we seem to have a longer life expectancy… this is just a façade as many of us have conditions that cannot stay alive without operations, daily drugs, herbs, medical devices etc. to keep us alive. In the olden days without technology and medical advancement, we would be dead. So life expectancy did not increase… it may have decreased instead. Real life expectancy is measured based on lifespan without all these artificial and tech supports.
People keep trying to look for alternative protein to replace meat – this shows we are already in the danger zone of perishing. One way we can help as an individual is to move towards plant based diet as it uses less resources to produce plants compared to animals. And we have to do plant based quickly before we perish… our earth is already showing drastic symptoms from all the abuse and damage we are giving her.
3. Balanced diet
Even on a wholefood plant based diet, if we eat largely potatoes and brown rice, we will run into problems with health. It is important to have balance intake of macros – carbohydrates, protein and fats. And ensure micro-nutrients – vitamins, minerals etc. are met.
4. No food – intermittent fasting.
Intermittent fasting done properly with the right advice, helps us go without food and allow the body to rest. Traditional medicine and ancient spiritual traditions encourage fasting when needed. Fasting is a way for the body to rest and spend its energy repairing itself and detoxify instead of digesting food. If we keep cramming ourselves with food, we create illness as our body systems gets abuse from overwork, it does not have time and energy to repair and detox. Once the gut is damaged, all kinds of illnesses result. Hippocrates apparently claimed that 'All disease begins in the gut'.
Over-eating a whole food plant based diet can damage health as well. So we have to eat only what we need and not excessively to stay healthy.
To be able to choose whole food, plant based and do intermittent fasting requires discipline to overcome our bad habits and overcome our cravings. So we have to build discipline to be able to transform our diet and thus, life.
