How social media impacts our mental health
LS202506We thrive well when we conquer the flaws in our body, mind and actions.
Acknowledge the challenges to thrive over them
I derive much realisation from the word “Acknowledge” and then ask questions that leads to greater and deeper understandings.
Acknowledge that all beings survive continuously under challenges. For example, Covid virus is here to stay as virus undergoes mutations continuously and we just need to be conscious of our health by taking care of the places and people we visit. Wear a mask in crowded places and nasal wash with salt solution when we do not feel right in the throat. Similarly, we understand that media is here to stay since the invention of black and white telvision. How do we conquer the invasion of social media into our daily lives? Yes, it is an invasion. Look around us and you see at least 60% of the people scrolling aimlessly on various social platforms. Why are they addicted and is this addiction a downfall to human existence as the most highly intelligent species on Earth?
C stands for communicate. All beings communicate to survive better and we need to communicate meaningful information to improve one another’s life. Social media has tonnes of garbage but also some meaningful contents. So we should encourage friends and family to share meaningful contents to improve our physical body and mind. Set a good example by sharing links with a note to explain why you have chosen to share it. Your positive effort will send ripples across to your network and let us all be more responsible.
K stands for knowledge. We need good and superior knowledge in anything we do. Do research online to know the mental and physical impact on our body and mind if we scroll aimlessly for 30mins every day. Well, many scroll for an hour at least and some even play games for more than 3 hours on gaming platforms or apps. Researches have proved that continuous focus on any screen will damage our eyes, drain our brain, degenerate our memory and ability to logic and communicate. Everyone knows these facts but why we are fueling this invasion.
NOW means now. Now, we have to act to control this invasion. We have to know the urgency of this invasion like how we act in unity to conquer Covid 19 and continue to thrive. If we did not act in unison then, we would have more deaths and more people with weak health from Covid19. As we do not have a vaccination for illnesses caused by social media, we have to be self-immunised by reminding ourselves the negative impacts of using digital devices and also share tiredlessly this understanding with research findings among our family and friends. When we have a mission to defend our future, we have the right energy and attitude to conquer this digital invasion.
Led stands for lead. We lead by being good examples. Show discipline to your friends and family by not scrolling digital devises aimlessly. Similarly, do not scroll and walk in public. Be an extraordinary being with mindfulness and control over your actions.
Ge comes from the last two letters of engage. All our understanding and realisation mean nothing unless right and positive actions are being engaged to resolve and remove the threats and risks that are negatively impacting our body, mind and actions. It is our indulguence, ignorance and indolence that cause proper actions to be delayed or moderately engaged with little effect.
Once we fully acknowledge the urgency of a problem, we will have the wisdom, diligence and perservance to overcome all obstacles and challenges in life.
